SERVE IT IN CANNING JARS. This is good idea for so many reasons: 1. The lids keep the bugs out. 2. The ice seems to melt slower. 3. Toddlers can tip it all they want without spilling (much). 4. And it just plain looks inviting, doesn't it? It's very simple to make these. Buy 1/2 quart (2 cups) canning jars, complete with bands and lids. Set the lid on a piece of scrap wood and hold it down with something rubberized so it won't spin as you drill. (I did this once, and it hurts.) Using a drill bit bigger than the size of the straw, drill a hole in the middle of the lid. Use fine sandpaper to smooth the edges of the hole. Wash all pieces before using them for drinks. I found two volunteers to demonstrate how the jars work. The volunteers recommend using bendy straws in pretty colors. The color of the straw helps people remember which drink is theirs. Hope you're having a refreshing summer day.
