Cold enough for you?

It's zero degrees outside. Tonight it will reach -14.
MINUS FOURTEEN! This is when Minnesotans look at each other blankly and one says to the other in a voice about an octave higher than normal, "Remind me why we live here." Sometimes the response is a nod and a smile. Sometimes there is an effort to honor ancestors who struggled to get here in the first place, as if their suffering comes to nothing if we don't suffer too. For Buzz and me, it's almost a point of pride. Yes, we are so amazing to be able to survive here and be good sports about it (most of the time).  When people from warmer climes visit us during a cold snap, we roll out the Minnesota cold like it's the 8th wonder of the world. It really is quite spectacular.
