Loons on the lake

The sound of the loon is one of my two favorite sounds in the world, the other being the sound of crickets. Loons' cries can seem hysterical (loony), but when their cries echo across the water and all else is quiet, they produce the most hauntingly peaceful sound--the signature Minnesota lake sound. Sometimes we see baby chicks riding on mom's back. On this day we spotted two adult loons who weren't afraid of the boat at all.
